Not feeling too good :(

Day 10 14th September

I woke around 4am, i wasn't feeling to good. My stomach churned so sitting up and rapidly unzipping my tent i darted forward and began wreching. Nothing but liquid projected from my mouth. Oh dear, maybe I'd eaten some bad fruit or drank something tainted.

My bowls began to move. I quickly slid my feet into my boots and grabbing my wet wipes ran into the woods away from camp. Crouching down i immediately squirted a murky liquid. This was not good. I'd hoped though that that would be the end of it.

I headed back to the tent and snuggled into my sleeping bag hoping I'd be better in the morning.

A few hours later i woke once again, my stomach churning. Again i rapidly unzipped the tent and lurched forward as projectile vomiting channelled from my stomach making a quick escape from my nose and mouth. It was like a scene from the exorcist.

Crouched over on all fourd i knew i hadn't finished clearing out my system i quickly grabbed the wet wipes, slid my feet into my boots and legged it to my wilderness latrine.

Slightly bent over it didn't take much effort to produce a high powered squirt, imagine a jet wash attached directly to the sewers. Surely this had to be it now. I was in a pretty bad way.

Crawling back into my tent i decided that I'd hold up where i was just get myself sorted and allow my bodies natural defences combat the invading bug I'd picked up somewhere.

It was around 2pm when i woke again but i was feeling considerably better than i had that morning. In fact i felt a tad hungry. I was out of water though which was a big problem.

Grabbing my sawyer water filter and two empty bottles, which had been with me since my camel pak hsd sprung a leak in 2014 at the beginning of my mammoth UK Coastal Trek, i headed down from my woodland hide away to where i hoped to find a small stream at the bottom of the valley.

Crossing the main road I'd hiked the night before i entered an empty field and continued down towards the creek i was sure I'd find. Getting closer i could hear the beautiful sound of water cascading its way over rocks as it headed for the coast somewhere in france or maybe belgium i didn't know which but i did know it had a very long way to travel.

Part filling my first bottle i quickly gulped down the precious clear liquid quenching my thirst and settling my churning stomach. It growled, it was telling me it wanted food, any food but probably not an apple. I was convinced the apple I'd been given was the cause of my upset. I could be wrong but nonetheless my belly was yearning for some sustenance of some description.

With both bottles filled i made my way back up the steep valley climb across the field. It was exhausting work. The illness had knocked my body for a good six. Getting back to camp i cranked up my gas stove and got a coffee on the go. Although my stomach waa yearning for food i still didn't think i was ready for it.

I was most definitely feeling much better although slightly weakened. With little much else to do i crawled back into my sleeping bag and dropped off almost immediately.

Paddleboard the Nile

The challenge is to paddleboard the longest and most dangerous river in the world, the River Nile, all 4265 miles, from its furthest source in the Nyungwe rainforest in Rwanda, through Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan and finish at the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt. Live tracking will be made available online, along with updates using satellite technology. It will be an extreme interactive educational adventure, bringing awareness of other cultures, our effect on nature, and, the determination of man. It should take between 7 and 9 months. Experience has taught me, however, that such expeditions can throw you a curveball at any moment!
